Personal Technology Notes

1 – The hard drive on the family computer, an ASUS, pooped the bed. It’s almost done with repairs, but naturally I haven’t been able to post as often on here since I can only do it via phone. If you’ve ever tried to write a blog post in that manner, you’ll know how hellish it can be. Weird thing about ASUS: they no longer have recovery media for my model, even though it’s barely 3 years old. Strange they discontinued support so quickly, but they did help find a third party site selling what I needed.

2 – Currently on a quick vacation away in MA, taking advantage of my parents’ computer. You can thank them for being able to read this, since I don’t need to agonize over typing this on a small, non-tactile screen with a limited keyboard (see #1).

3 – There was some funny business with getting email notifications for new comments, so I haven’t been on top of responding to them as quick as I normally do. I believe that’s been fixed now. It’s really the first time WordPress has acted up on me since the blog started, and the solution was fairly painless, so I actually feel guilty mentioning the issue at all.

4 – None of this truly matters in the long run. God’s in control.

If I had to blog from my phone, I wouldn’t. My fingers are just about average size, which means way too big for cellphone typing. Even the tiny size of my netbook is tolerable by comparison. While I didn’t enjoy the tiny screen resolution and he lower power, at least my netbook made it possible to survive those weeks confined to my recliner after the bike wreck. Cellphones are for talking and I don’t do a lot of that, either.

My fingers aren’t too huge and even I have issues with phones.

Re: the computer. I got it back from the repair place, but a series of keys don’t work – n m h j y u 6 7. Weird. And annoying.

Comment notifications have always been a weird sporadic thing on my WordPress site, but then, I’m the worst admin ever.

Is yours self-hosted? It looks like it is…mine is as well. It looks like mine are sporadic now, too. This might require a deeper dive. Would help if my computer worked, eh?

No, mine is hosted from GoDaddy. Some of my other familia started websites and put mine under their acct on GoDaddy. At the time, I had a Blogger blog, but they had promised to make me a professional author site, which ended up being WordPress. Often, the only way to fix things is to log onto GoDaddy…which I never do.
