Photos: Spicebush Trail Hike

I took my son out on a hike at a local park. Here are some photos.

We had an off-path companion for a few moments:

This tree had a strange, ugly vine wrapped around it:

Pit stop:

I really like this one. The sun is in the top center, right in the opening of the branches, behind some thin clouds:

A plaque on a bench:

Rather large holes from a pileated woodpecker. I had to look these up, because they didn’t look natural at all, but it’s a really strange thing for a human to do:

Lovely pictures! Making my province jealous over here.

Good stuff, Bro. Those ugly vines are quite common down this way, providing a sign that the tree is likely not far from dying. Not far as trees go, mind you.

When does spring come for you in those northern climes? It still looks like winter. The funny thing is we had a snowstorm during spring break (not uncommon in NM), but the next week the leaves turned green. Happy hikes to you!

Spring usually comes “on time” with the official calendar date, sometimes earlier. Winters in western PA are pretty short. This year winter temps lasted longer than usual. The day we hiked this was one of the first warmish spring days, hence why everything looks cold.

I like the area because there’s a decent-length growing season, from March to October.
