Links of Possible Relevance, Part 40

How Giving Up TV For A Month Changed My Brain And My Life
“Never watch more television than the amount of time you exercise.” I am in the clear here, since every day I exercise around 45 minutes. Only some days, I’d only watch a standard-length show with my daughter at night, though nowadays with streaming, the fabled sitcom (we don’t watch sitcoms, don’t worry) length of 22 minutes is variable. I have some decent viewing time saved up that I will never use.

Joel Did Nothing Wrong – The Importance Of Ambiguity
You could skip to the 2:00 mark to get to the explanation. Should Joel have allowed Ellie killed so the vaccine could be produced, or save her life? The choice between two terrible choices is the heart of a character-driven story. But, as Critical Drinker mentions, The Last of Us 2 pooped all over that.

Deus Vult: A Crusader Fantasy Graphic Novel
I was about to back this, but looking at the cover, I was eh about it. I get the whole pulp thing, but there’s sensual and there’s skeevy. Besides, assuming the dude next to her was a bona fide crusader, he’d be commanding the slattern to cover her shame or be immured.

STAR WARS the hidden complexities of C3PO (character analysis) Part One
C-3P0 was an interesting character, but if you really pay attention to his behavior, you realize how abusive he is towards R2-D2, bordering on narcissistic personality disorder. I theorize that his protocol droid programming goes haywire if he’s not actually doing protocol work, so he doesn’t really know how to behave. You’ll notice that he does his job well when he’s actually performing protocol functions, like when he’s captured by Jabba and starts working for him as an interpreter.

Andrew Cuomo Was Paid $65 for Every Book He Sold
As stated here before, mainstream publishing, especially political publishing, is used to transferring funds as a payoff for an outside deal, basically money laundering.

The GOP’s big bulk book-buying machine is boosting Republicans on the bestseller lists
If very few real readers are buying lefty books, a lot less are buying and reading books from conservative dweebs. I wonder what Crenshaw is getting paid for.

REPORT: Amy Coney Barrett Lands $2 Million Book Advance
And again. No one in the world is going to buy this book. That advance will not be recouped. What is she getting paid $2 million dollars for?

Deadlock – State of Decay Live 26.04.2012 [HD]
Sabine was always one of my favorite metal-pop vocalists, though this song is light on the “metal” parts. Clear and on point, and the song in the video showcases her a lot since John didn’t do any screaming. She never got a whole lot of notice because she wasn’t flashy with her vocals, as a lot women in metal bands tend toward the operatic side if it’s not the screaming kind. Nothing wrong with that, it’s just unusual. She didn’t dress flamboyantly or like a skank, either, so that didn’t help her case.

Vaccine Refusal Will Come at a Cost—For All of Us
Maybe, but given how painfully unfatal Covid-19 is, obesity, smoking, and fentanyl are probably far more costly than the non-vaccinated.

‘WRONG AND HARMFUL’ Who is Captain Underpants author Dav Pilkey and why did he apologize?
This Pilkey nerd doesn’t realize his main and recurring characters are huge stereotypes. The school principal is a abusive white male buffoon, the two young male students are troublemakers and like comic books. He needs to cancel the whole series.

I agree with the Scotsman’s assessment on “The Last of Us.” The first was interesting to watch as a movie, but part 2 took only seconds to kill my interest. America is dying, as your other links testify. It’s not pretty to watch.

I’ve only watched the 12 minutes of the first game, right up until Sarah is shot. I think the depiction of the initial outbreak is handled really well. I want to watch the whole thing someday.

That Dav Pilkey headline is priceless! 😀 He was in the top 10 bestsellers list at a Saskatoon bookstore last month.

My son has a few of his books. They aren’t bad reading, and there’s nothing offensive in them unless you’re looking for it (which I guess applies to anything).

  • Jill says:

I backed that graphic novel, but it was mostly for the artwork inside. The cover looks like extremely cheesy pulp era covers, which I don’t mind, I guess.

I thought the same when I read about Amy Coney Barrett getting a gigantic book deal. So much for Trump’s vaunted conservative pick. She’s definitely sold out to someone for some reason. I hope the money is worth it for her.

    • Jay says:

That’s fine, re: you backing it. It’s also fine that the cover is the way it is. My distaste is merely personal to my preferences. I wish the project blessings, genuinely.

Mainstream conservatives are the same as mainstream lefties; they are friendly competitors on the same team. Which is why true believers like Ron Paul or Bernie Sanders only get so far. They are Party members, but not Inner Party members.
