Video: My Minecraft House

I built a house in Minecraft.

On all the gate entrances I put up my banner. It’s a cross, because Jesus, with a red skull over it, because death (lots of plants and animals need killing in Minecraft). I am very dark and poetic, you see. I wish you could see the banners from far away when using the spyglass, but I guess they don’t render until you’re a certain minimum distance.

Enjoy my cows and chickens and semi-organized belongings. I really wish there was an auto-sorting function for your chest contents, because doing it manually is a huge pain. The food you see at 3:13 is probably the most conspicuously organized. It grinds my gears that eggs can’t be cooked in Minecraft, because that’s the most obvious thing you can do with them, besides throwing them, which you can do.

The lava at 1:21 is for incineration. I hate having items and material I don’t use taking up chest space.

The nether portal is in a random spot because my son built in a random spot. I didn’t feel like breaking it down and rebuilding it, so I just wound the fencing around it.

All the books you see in my study at 4:06 were 90% crafted manually. At some point you just think you’ve done enough work in the game and you use the console commands to cheat. I crafted most things manually. For some ridiculous things like the Wither Skeleton skull you have to acquire to make the skull banner pattern I just used the console, though I did try to kill a bunch of Withers to get them to drop the stupid skull. And saddles, which you can only acquire, not craft for some reason. The emeralds you see at 3:22 we acquired genuinely. Nick and I ended up in a polar region in my world as we were randomly exploring. There was a Witch living in a frozen ship and we killed her and took her emeralds. She wasn’t nice to begin with.

The tunnel at 4:30 is just an escape route for whatever reason. I dug until I hit a cave, then lined everything with cobblestone.

The trees and cornflowers you see from the lookout tower at 7:09 I planted and grew myself; it was all an open field originally. I had weird gamer guilt at destroying so many trees in the world that I had to plant a whole forest to assuage myself. The bonemeal used to grow the trees I eventually spawned, because there’s no way I’m grinding Skeleton kills to get that much bonemeal.

I don’t get attacked here at night because we switched to “peace” mode. Wish I had known about that sooner.

The bell (you can’t craft those either) at the end I acquired after a Creeper attacked me while I was in a village. The bell block broke when the Creeper exploded. I was going to repair the gate thing that was ruined and re-place the bell, but I thought…nah, I just saved a Villager’s house or life doing this, I’m keeping this. Now I can enjoy it any time I want.
